10/15/23-10/21/23
Sorry for a bit of a delay, but here is the first week of ministry and being out of the US.
So this past week was a long one. We headed out of the country on 10/15/23. We went from Atlanta Georgia to Istanbul, Istanbul to Thailand, and then from Thailand to Cambodia. Our first flight from Atlanta to Istanbul was around 11 hours and then from Istanbul to Thailand was a 9 hour flight. We had a 12 hour layover in Thailand so we had the opportunity to go out and explore some of the nearby areas. Before we left the airport to explore we grabbed some authentic Thai food. After we ate we headed out to explore. We found some taxis and headed to were a bunch of shops were. We got in the car and then realized that the side of the road was switched, we were driving on the left side of the road! It was pretty trippy at first but got used to it pretty quickly. We tried talking with our driver as well as we could. He understood a little bit of English but not much. We finally got over to the shops and was able to explore around there. We tried some really good drinks and food from some of the shops. We were out for about 6 or 7 hours exploring before we headed back to the airport. We then got back and relaxed until we had to get up, grab our bags, and get through security. We got through and got ready for our last flight to Cambodia. We arrived in Cambodia on 10/16/23 late at night. As soon as we got off the plane we filled out our VISA and then waited for the vans that would take us to the hostel we were staying at in Phenom Penn for the night. The vans finally arrived and we loaded up all of our bags and headed to the hostels. We got there, got into our room, took shower and got ready for what was next. We were told that night that we would needed to be ready by 8:30 AM to go to our ministry that we would staying at for the next 45 days. We went to bed around 1 AM because we were jet lagged from, what would have been for us, about 48 hours of travel across many different time zones. My team was woken up at 6 AM because there was unforeseen change in what time we were being picked up. We had about 30 minutes to grab everything and get our bags down. Since we got up so early and it was unexpected we weren’t able say bye to the majority of the squad. We were able to say bye to the leaders and they were able to pray over us. We then headed to our ministry that would be 8 hours from the rest of the squad with little access to the internet or phone service. We got there and were greeted with all the kids we would be ministering to for the next 45 days. We got settled in with all of our bags. Our host then introduced himself and the two teachers that teach the students also introduced themselves. He then gave us 2 days to get rested up before we started ministry. Our first day of ministry was just going to classes and watching how they were being taught. We also have an evening class where we teach older students English. So far this is my life for the next 40 days and I can’t wait to see all God does.
Thank you all for reading this weeks story, I hope you all enjoyed.
