Week 10/29/23 – 11/4/23
Last week we had the opportunity to go into the city of Kampot for a soccer tournament our ministry was playing in. So as a group we decided to use half the day to watch the tournament and then the other half of the day to adventure. Half of the guys weren’t feeling up to a big adventure, but then the other half wanted to try finding a secret waterfall we had heard about. We came up the idea of splitting off into two groups. One group stays in the city and finds something to do there. Some of those guys were talking about getting tattoos and finding a good place to eat. Me and the other group went to try finding this secret waterfall. Our journey to this secret waterfall started with a 30 minute drive to Bokor Mountain and then another 15 minutes on a rough bumpy road through a village and banana farm. The van stopped, we got out, and continued walking up the mountain through the banana farm. We walked for about 15 minutes and then we saw an opening between all the banana trees and realized that this banana farm went on for miles in every direction. It was truly a beautiful sight to see. We then continued walking up the mountain on a narrow trail up the mountain. This trail was mainly used by the banana farmers to transport the bananas up and down the mountain. We had to look out for motorcycles carrying bananas. There were also a couple of locals that lived on the mountain in bungalows. After hiking for about an hour and a half we finally found the secret waterfall. The waterfall was one of the most beautiful things I’ve seen while in Cambodia. The trees and rocks surrounding the waterfall made it difficult to find but also added to its beauty. We then headed down after a while, went to pick up rest of the team, and then head back home.
